Oh deer: Dozens of deer roam Ashland, OR

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — Wildlife has become a little too wild in downtown Ashland.

The Ashland Daily Tidings reports that dozens of deer are roaming the southern Oregon city. Several have attacked people who were walking their dogs, and one recently crashed through the window of Nimbus, a high-end clothing store downtown.

City parks and state wildlife officials say there is little they can do. They say killing them or using birth control darts is difficult and probably wouldn’t solve the problem. Ashland is next to forests that are full of deer.

State wildlife biologist Mark Vargas says the deer have lost their fear of humans. He says people need to stop feeding them and should scare them away by chasing or spraying them with garden hoses.
