NEW YORK (AP) — Simply Spiteful beat Shine Upon by 312 lengths Sunday in the $54,000 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
Adding blinkers for the first time, Simply Spiteful aggressively grabbed the lead at the start and never yielded. Jeremy Rose was aboard for trainer Mike Trombetta as the 3-year-old got her third win in nine starts. The time was 1:17.02 for the 612 furlongs on the fast track.
Simply Spiteful paid $4.80 and $3 as the 7-5 favorite. Shine Upon returned $3.20. Ain’t Love Grand was third with Reforestation fourth and last. There was no show wagering.
