KELSO, Wash. (AP) — Lewis County prosecutors say they will not charge the owner of an Onalaska house who shot and killed a suspected burglar.

KLOG reports authorities believe the owner fired in self defense the night of April 22 when he heard noises from his driveway and fired at lights shined in his eyes.

The shooting killed 56-year-old Thomas McKenzie of Morton. The sheriff’s office says McKenzie and his wife intended to commit a burglary at the house, which was under construction.

The wife, 32-year-old Joanna McKenzie, was not hit in the shooting. She has been jailed for investigation of attempted burglary.
