LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — French Open champion Francesca Schiavone has withdrawn from next week’s Slovenia Open because of a wrist injury.

Organizers said Wednesday the WTA had informed them that Schiavone will miss the tournament due to tendinitis in her left wrist.

Schiavone, who became the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam title last month, was to be second-seeded at the tournament in Portoroz, Slovenia. Third-ranked Jelena Jankovic of Serbia is the top seed at the $220,000 event.
