LONDON (AP) — Eddie Johnson scored in his first match after being cut from the U.S. World Cup roster, helping Fulham beat Brentford 5-0 Wednesday night in the Cottagers’ opening preseason exhibition.

The 26-year-old forward scored Fulham’s fourth goal in the 49th minute. He signed in January 2008, was loaned to Cardiff City for the 2008-9 season and made four competitive appearances for Fulham last season before he was loaned on Dec. 31 to Greece’s Aris.

He scored three goals in the Greek playoffs but strained a hamstring. While he was picked for the 30-man preliminary U.S. roster, he was cut when the group was pared to 23 before traveling to South Africa.

Fulham was without U.S. midfielder Clint Dempsey, given time off following the World Cup.
