MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have placed All-Star first baseman Justin Morneau on the disabled list with a concussion.

Morneau missed his fourth straight game on Thursday night and Minnesota lost to the Chicago White Sox 8-7 to fall 412 games behind in the AL Central.

Morneau was injured while sliding into second base to break up a double play on July 7 at Toronto. He has been feeling the effects of the injury ever since. He is hitting .345 with 18 homers and 56 RBIs.

The move is retroactive to July 8 and Morneau will be able to come off the disabled list July 23.

The Twins recalled right-hander Jeff Manship from Triple-A Rochester to help their depleted bullpen. Starter Kevin Slowey lasted just three innings in the loss to the White Sox.
