SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — American David Oliver has posted the fastest time this year in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 12.89 seconds to win at the Paris Diamond League meet and get within 0.02 seconds of Dayron Robles’ world record.

Oliver took advantage of mild temperatures and a slight tail wind Friday, getting a strong start and pulling away to beat fellow Americans Ryan Wilson (13.12) and Ronnie Ashe (13.21).

Robles, the defending Olympic champion and world-record holder in the 110 hurdles, pulled out of the meet because of leg problems.

The powerfully built Oliver already had the previous season’s best time, a 12.90 at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore.
