SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Interim superintendent Nena Strickland says an Oregon State Hospital employee has been fired for engaging in inappropriate activity with a patient.

Strickland said hospital officials became aware of the allegations Wednesday. She described the fired worker as a trial-service employee.

Hospital officials declined to release the name of the fired employee or provide specifics about the accusations.

The state police has opened a criminal investigation.
