EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The Everett man accused of stabbing his landlady to death spent decades in a state mental hospital after he stabbed another landlady in 1980. She survived.

Steven R. Well said he believed the woman was invading his brain with electrical signals. The Daily Herald reports he was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was released in 2004 with conditions that he take his medications and find suitable housing.

The 58-year-old Well is accused of killing 64-year-old Judy Garcia on Sunday at their Everett apartment building.

He was ordered held Monday on $2.5 million bail for investigation of murder.
