EPHRATA, Wash. (AP) — The state Fish and Wildlife Department says an 18-year-old Mattawa man fired a shot at a wildlife officer who returned fire during a chase.

The department says the man was arrested Saturday after his car stalled near Ephrata. He’s now facing an attempted murder charge in Grant County.

The department says the man’s 60-year-old father pulled a knife on an officer after the teen was stopped for fishing without a license at Crab Creek near Beverly. The father is facing an assault charge.

Both men are jailed in Ephrata and also held for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
