LONDON (AP) — Tottenham has become the first English Premier League team to ban vuvuzelas from its stadium.

The north London club says the South African trumpets could pose “unnecessary risks to public safety and could impact on the ability of all supporters to hear any emergency safety announcements” at White Hart Lane.

The Premier League has not ruled on the use of the vuvuzela at matches.

Their blaring noise featured widely at the recently concluded World Cup and frequently drowned out stadium announcements at matches and television commentary.
