EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Eugene Fire Department says a fire at an assisted living center had spread from a grass fire.

District Chief Scott Bishop says the grass fire may have been caused by a cigarette. It spread Thursday to bushes, a fence and then set fire to the Sierra Oaks Residential and Memory Care center.

The Register-Guard reports 30 residents were evacuated. Fifteen of them were unable to return to damaged units.

No one was injured. Damage is estimated at $400,000.
