PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Newberg police say officers arrested a 53-year-old man after he tried shooting his stepmother.

The Oregonian reports that officers were dispatched to a Newberg home after reports of shots fired in a residence. As they approached the residence, the woman called police to say that her son tried to shoot her with a gun.

Newberg police Capt. Jeff Kosmicki says that Scott Jeffery Engle retreated to a trailer on the property when officers arrived, but surrendered after a brief stand off. No one was injured.

Engle was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder among other counts.
