BENTON CITY, Wash. (AP) — A fire official says what started as a grass fire on State Highway 224 in Benton City destroyed a home and a shed Tuesday afternoon and burned about five acres of grass and sagebrush.

Chief Mike Spring of Benton County Fire District 4 says the home’s residents were out when the flames came through. No injuries were reported.

Spring says the fire also drifted into a nearby vineyard and singed some grapes and fencing.

Fire crews were called at about 4 p.m. and had the fire out by 5:30 p.m.

Washington Transportation Department crews closed or restricted traffic on Highway 224 in the area for more than two hours.

Spring says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
