LAS VEGAS (AP) — The World Series of Poker will soon let card players chase virtual gold bracelets on Facebook and other social networks.
The series known for poker’s richest tournament has launched a Facebook application allowing players to compete in virtual no-limit Texas Hold ’em battles.
But the virtual games cost no money, unlike the high-stakes series of tournaments held in Las Vegas each year. This year’s main event cost $10,000 to enter. Top prize is $8.94 million and will be awarded after the event plays its final table in November.
Series officials say the Facebook application is a relaunched version of a poker application by Mountain View, Calif.-based Playdom, Inc.
The application includes play-money ring games and tournaments.
