PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Army says a former Oregon National Guard soldier has not been billed for gear lost when he was wounded in Iraq.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord spokesman Joe Piek (PEEK’) issued a statement in response to Oregon television news reports that the government has been docking Gary Pfleider’s disability checks to pay a $3,000 bill for gear he was wearing when he was shot by a sniper in 2007.

Piek says the bill is for something else, but he declined to say what unless Pfleider signs a waiver of his privacy rights.
