NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Liberty will become the fourth WNBA team to feature corporate logos on their jerseys.
The Liberty and Foxwoods Resort Casino announced a multiyear partnership Wednesday that will include a jersey sponsorship.
WNBA president Donna Orender says the deal “validates” the WNBA and the Liberty as viable businesses.
Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises owns Foxwoods. Chief marketing officer Rob Victoria says the discussions with Madison Square Garden initially only involved the arena, but the addition of the jersey deal was a turning point in negotiations.
The Phoenix Mercury were the first WNBA team to announce a jersey deal, signing with LifeLock in June 2009.
