VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A Clark County, Wash., Fire District 6 spokeswoman says a young male driver was text-messaging just before a head-on crash Tuesday that left him with traumatic injuries.

Spokeswoman Dawn Johnson says the unidentified driver was northbound in a Mitsubishi Eclipse on a local street when he swerved into southbound lanes and collided with a GMC Sierra truck. Johnson says the young man’s mother came to the crash site and says her son had been texting her at the time.

The young man was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center for treatment; his condition was not known. The male truck driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
