JOHANNESBURG (AP) — FIFA says a striker who plays for North Korea’s national soccer team can’t be used in the field at the World Cup because he was listed as a goalkeeper on the 23-man squad.
Kim Myong Won, who usually plays as a forward, was listed as a goalkeeper in the final squad submitted to FIFA by coach Kim Jong Hun. The deadline for the 23-man squads was June 1.
FIFA says “the three players listed as goalkeepers can only play as goalkeepers during the FIFA World Cup and cannot play outfield.”
