CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon State wrestler has been accused of punching a man in the face last month.

State police say 22-year-old Colby Covington was cited for misdemeanor assault after a Corvallis man reported the May 23 incident. According to the alleged victim, the assault occurred after he and another man were called names by a group that included Covington.

The victim said Covington punched him twice in the face. The other man said he was punched in the eye during the incident.

Wrestling coach Jim Zalesky said in an e-mail to the Gazette-Times that he’s looking into the situation. Since it’s the offseason, he may wait to let the legal system run its course.

Covington was a Pacific-10 Conference champion at 174 pounds this past season. The Springfield native will be a senior next season.
