SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Chris Wondolowski scored his sixth goal of the season in the 79th minute Wednesday night and the San Jose Eathquakes salvaged a 2-2 tie with the Columbus Crew.

Wondolowski’s blast from the top of the penalty box found the corner of the net and allowed San Jose (5-3-2) to gain a point after defender Chad Marshall had put Columbus ahead in the 70th minute with his first goal.

Wondolowski is third in MLS in goals behind Los Angeles’ Edson Buddle (nine goals) and Toronto’s Dwayne De Rosario (eight).

Columbus (6-1-3) started the scoring in the sixth minute when Eddie Gaven headed in a corner kick from Jason Garey. The Earthquakes tied the score a minute later when Arturo Alvarez scored after being set up by Andre Luiz.
