NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — The mother of a teenage Newport girl found text messages with sexual content on the girl’s cell phone that led police to a 39-year-old Canadian truck driver.

Police say the truck driver, Beeja Ram, sent pornographic images and text messages while trying to set up a sexual liason with the the 13-year-old girl.

Ram was charged on Thursday with online sexual corruption of a child, third-degree sex abuse and coercion.

Police say Ram met the girl and a friend of hers in early May. Ram then got the girl’s cell phone number from the friend.

Police say Ram parked his tractor-trailer rig on Cape Foulweather Thursday morning and took a cab to the Rodeway Inn on North Coast Highway, where he was arrested.
