NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A person familiar with negotiations says the New Orleans Hornets have begun contract talks with Monty Williams about their head coaching job.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the club hasn’t officially commented on the negotiations, says the Hornets’ offer to Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodaux has not been rescinded, but that New Orleans is turning its focus to Williams while Thibodaux considers a range of options with several teams.

Williams, who played nine seasons in the NBA, has been an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers since 2005.
