Nancy Barnes announced this week that she will run for a fourth six-year term as one of three elected commissioners of Clark Public Utilities.

Barnes, who lives in the Cascade Park area of Vancouver, was first elected in 1992.

“There are wonderful opportunities and challenges ahead in the utility industry,” she said in a prepared statement.

She said her goals include emphasizing excellent customer service, affordable electricity and a dependable supply of low-cost water.

“We also have to continue managing the risks we face with a new (Bonneville Power Administration) contract for wholesale power next year and the continuing volatility in the price of natural gas used at the utility’s River Road Generating Plant,” she said. “These are complex contracts requiring careful decisions.”
