SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A former Spokane County Jail deputy has been charged with misdemeanor assault, accused of grabbing an inmate by the throat in November 2008.

The Spokesman-Review says Wayne S. Green was fired last summer. An arbitrator is reviewing his dismissal.

In the complaint filed this week in Spokane County District Court, Green is accused of assaulting a 34-year-old inmate in the jail’s booking area just after the inmate was released from a holding cell. The complaint alleges that the deputy inserted himself in a situation that didn’t concern him. The inmate suffered minor bruising and small cuts.

Green is to appear in court within the next two weeks on the charge.
