JOHANNESBURG (AP) — The website of an official World Cup sponsor says Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel will miss the tournament in South Africa because of a knee injury.
Nigerian team official Emmanuel Attah has told mtnfootball.com that Mikel has not recovered from knee surgery and will be replaced on the World Cup squad. MTN is a South African telecommunications company.
Mikel sat out World Cup warmup matches against Saudi Arabia and Colombia, but had been expected to play against South Korea on Sunday.
