BALTIMORE (AP) — Mike Cameron is back in the Boston Red Sox starting lineup after missing five games because of soreness related to an abdominal tear.
Cameron was batting eighth and playing center field Sunday in the finale of a three-game series at Baltimore. It was his first action since May 30.
Signed as a free agent last December, Cameron missed 34 games earlier this season with an abdominal tear. He started five games after coming off the disabled list May 25 but experienced a setback after playing against Kansas City last Sunday.
Cameron calls his return against Baltimore “another steppingstone, hopefully going in the good direction.”
