JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Mexico’s best known player, defender Rafael Marquez, is back training with El Tri after missing several days with a right leg injury picked up in last week’s 2-1 exhibition victory over Italy.
Monday was Mexico’s first practice with every member present since the team arrived in South Africa a few days ago.
Mexico plays the first game of the World Cup on Friday against host South Africa. Mexican federation president Justino Compean acknowledged everyone with the team “is nervous but confident” because Mexico has played more warmup matches to prepare for the tournament than any of the 32 teams.
