ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have placed infielder John McDonald on the bereavement list and purchased the contract of minor league outfielder Dewayne Wise.

The moves were announced before Thursday night’s game against Tampa Bay.

McDonald has missed the past six games to be with his gravely ill father.

Wise agreed to terms on a minor league contract with Toronto last Saturday and had been playing with the Blue Jays’ extended spring training team in Florida.
