4 cows killed by lightning near Milton-Freewater

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — Four cows standing under a tree in a pasture were killed by a bolt of lightning near Milton-Freewater, Ore.

Rancher Scott Hendricks told The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin the cows were killed instantly Wednesday afternoon and two of them fell on their calves. A neighbor was able to pull the dead animals off the calves and save them.
