JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Mexico captain Gerardo Torrado says his team is not intimidated by France and will take on its next Group A rival as equals.
The 31-year-old midfielder says there are no easy games at the World Cup and the pressure to win “is never small,” but Mexico is confident it will reach the second round.
Mexico and France play Thursday in Polokwane, a day after the match in Pretoria between the other teams in the group, South Africa and Uruguay.
All four teams have one point, with Mexico and South Africa ahead on goal differential.
At Monday’s practice session at Waterstone College, goalkeeper coach Alberto Aguilar used NFL-type footballs during a drill to better prepare his players for unpredictable bounces.
