LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — German showjumper Marco Kutscher has been disqualified and fined $8,842 for a doping offense at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

A panel of the FEI international equestrian federation tribunal ruled Tuesday that Kutscher violated anti-doping rules by allowing his horse, Cornet Obolensky, to be treated with the medication Lactanase.

Kutscher argued the German team veterinarian had followed necessary protocol to ensure the treatment was legal.

Kutscher has been disqualified from all placings at the 2008 Olympics, although he did not win any medals at those games. He won two bronze medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Kutscher was also ordered to pay $4,421 in legal costs. He has 30 days to appeal.
