Boy, 14, drowns in Columbia River at Finley

FINLEY, Wash. (AP) — A 14-year-old boy who went swimming with a friend drowned in the Columbia River at Finley.

Benton County Coroner Rick Corson identifies him as David L. Newton.

The Tri-City Herald reports his body was recovered around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, three hours after authorities were called to the boat launch at Two Rivers Park.

Officials say he drowned during his first jump into the water.
