GENEVA (AP) — Organizers say British cyclist Mark Cavendish failed to show up for the start of the sixth stage of the Tour of Switzerland.
Tour spokesman Christoph Arnold says the HTC-Columbia rider “never turned up” for Thursday’s start in Meiringen.
Arnold says organizers received no explanation for the rider’s no-show.
Arnold says he expects that Cavendish is “not planning to stay in the tour.”
Cavendish, a sprint specialist, drew the ire of fellow riders for causing a mass crash in Tuesday’s finish.
Swiss tabloid Blick claimed Cavendish intentionally took down Heinrich Haussler, prompting a protest by the riders at the start of Wednesday’s stage.
