ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon prison spokeswoman says Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario ended a lockdown and returned to normal operations Wednesday evening.

Spokeswoman Jill Curtis says the prison was put on lockdown Monday, with all visits canceled, after staffers foiled an escape attempt.

The prison said earlier that Oregon State Police were investigating the attempt but no other details were available.

The prison houses nearly 3,000 male inmates.
