WETZIKON, Switzerland (AP) — Marcus Burghardt of Germany has claimed a second stage win at the Tour of Switzerland by riding away from a breakaway group 34 miles from the finish of the seventh stage.
Burghardt was part of a lead pack of 16 riders, but dropped the group with a well-timed attack and rode strongly to the finish of the hilly 127-mile trek from Savognin to Wetzikon on Friday.
The 26-year-old Burghardt also won Wednesday’s fifth stage. He decided to compete in the race at the last minute after recovering from an elbow he injured at the Tour of California this season.
