Hockinson High School will dedicate its wall of fame to a former athlete who dedicated his life to volunteering and coaching young athletes.

The Chine Jones Wall of Fame will become reality at a ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hockinson baseball field.

“Chine had a personal impact on a large number of Hockinson athletes, as well as members of the Hockinson and Battle Ground communities through tireless volunteer efforts through Brush Prairie Baptist Church,” according to Eric Sawyer, an assistant baseball coach with the Hawks who spent two years putting together this project.

Jones was an outstanding athlete at Prairie High School. Kyle Jones, Chine’s oldest son, played sports at Hockinson, and Clayton, a senior-to-be, and Jacob, a sophomore-to-be, attend Hockinson.

Chine Jones died of cancer in 2006.

The wall of fame will be for Hockinson student-athletes who demonstrate excellence on and off the field.

Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart is expected to be on hand to deliver a speech about the value of mentors, coaches, and volunteers have on a community.

The Hockinson baseball team and the Jones family are inviting friends of Chine to attend the ceremony.
