WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. (AP) — Washington state troopers say emergency crews have rescued two young male climbers who got stuck climbing on the Deception Pass Bridge that connects Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island.

The crew of an Island County sheriff’s office boat that passed under the bridge spotted the stuck climbers Friday evening. One appeared to have gotten stuck while climbing nearly 200 feet up in the air.

Crews closed the bridge, brought in a boom truck and used it to reach over the side of the bridge and pluck the climbers to safety.

The unidentified climbers were described as ages 14 and 25. They reportedly suffered minor hypothermia.
