PHOENIX (AP) — The New York Yankees have called up outfielder Colin Curtis from Triple-A Scranton and designated catcher Chad Moeller for assignment.

Curtis hit .280 in 35 games with Scranton.

Manager Joe Girardi, speaking before the Yankees opened a three-game interleague series at Arizona, said Curtis can play all three outfield positions and gives the team another left-handed bat off the bench.

Moeller was called up from Scranton when New York placed catcher Jorge Posada on the 15-day disabled list with a hairline foot fracture. Posada was activated June 2. Moeller hit .190 in 11 at-bats.

Girardi said Phil Hughes (10-1, 3.17 ERA) will not pitch on the team’s six-game trip to Arizona and Los Angeles as part of the strategy to limit the overall innings for the 24-year-old right-hander.
