PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the shooting death of 17-year-old Portland boy.

Portland police said Tuesday they have a suspect in the fatal shooting Monday evening of Billy A. Moore near a Boys & Girls Club.

Investigators said they were trying to determine whether there was any gang connection. But Moore’s family says he was a hardworking teenager who had never been involved with gangs.

Moore was shot after getting off a bus while returning home from a Portland hospital where his terminally ill mother was on life support after complications from a bone marrow transplant.

His cousins say some other boys exchanged words with Moore on the bus and he was shot in the back just a block from his house.
