Detention for girl in Seattle bus tunnel beating

SEATTLE (AP) — A 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to 15 to 36 weeks in a juvenile detention facility for a beating of another teenage girl at the Seattle bus tunnel that was captured on surveillance video.

The Seattle girl had pleaded guilty earlier this month to second-degree assault to the Jan. 28 attack.

The widely viewed video showed uniformed security guards doing nothing to stop the beating. The attack prompted changes in bus tunnel security, including allowing security guards to intervene in tunnel fights rather than merely “observe and report.”

The Seattle Times reports the two girls had a long-standing dispute.
