BERLIN (AP) — Bundesliga club Hannover says it is extending the contract of American defender Steve Cherundolo for two years.
The club said on its Web site Tuesday that it had reached a verbal agreement with Cherundolo to extend his contract through 2012 with an option for a third year.
It gave no further details and did not say when the contract was expected to be signed.
The 31-year-old is currently in South Africa playing for the United States in the World Cup.
Hannover had the Bundesliga’s worst defense last season, conceding 67 goals in 34 games. It finished just above the relegation zone.
