SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon woman who left her children in the care of an abusive man while she was working as a prostitute has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison for her role in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
A judge told 21-year-old Amanda Burciaga during sentencing Monday in Salem that he believed her disregard for the welfare of her children amounted to being an accessory to murder.
Burciaga was convicted of three counts of criminal mistreatment in May for the 2008 death of her daughter, Natalia, and the abuse of her 3-year-old son.
Burciaga left the children in the care of her former boyfriend, Russell Ros, who was convicted of murder in the girl’s death.
