WASHINGTON (AP) — The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is expanding a program to Oregon to help provide arts education for elementary and middle school students.
The Washington, D.C.-based center announced Tuesday it will begin working with four Portland-area school districts. It will also link local arts groups to the public schools.
The idea is to sustain arts education in an affordable way as schools struggle with budget cuts.
The Kennedy Center began working with schools in Sacramento, Calif., last year and with schools in Springfield, Mo., earlier this year through its “Any Given Child” program.
