ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Zach Duke has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore left elbow.
A scheduled bullpen session for Duke on Wednesday was canceled because of continuing elbow discomfort. That came a day after the Pirates skipped his spot in the rotation.
An MRI exam on the elbow showed no structural damage.
General manager Neal Huntington said Duke will miss at least two more starts.
The move was retroactive to June 17, the day after Duke (3-8) lost to the Chicago White Sox, when he began experiencing discomfort while giving up five runs and eight hits in 5 2-3 innings. He is 1-8 in his last 11 starts.
The Pirates didn’t immediately fill the roster spot.
