SEATTLE (AP) — When the bars close Friday night in Seattle’s Belltown patrons can expect to see more police in the streets.

Police told a public safety meeting Tuesday night that the department is focusing attention on the neighborhood because of recent violence.

It’s part of the late night public safety initiative announced earlier Tuesday by Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Interim Police Chief John Diaz.

The plan is to put officers where the people are so that people can visit restaurants and nightspots without fear.
