MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Lynx guard Candice Wiggins will miss the rest of the season after rupturing her left Achilles’ tendon.

The Lynx announced the news Thursday, two days after Wiggins was hurt at New York with 8 seconds left in the game. An MRI done Wednesday confirmed the injury, and surgery was set for Friday.

In eight games this season, Wiggins averaged 13.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 29.8 minutes. The loss of the third pick in the 2008 draft is a blow to the Lynx, who have won three in a row after a 2-9 start under new coach Cheryl Reeve.

Wiggins missed the first six games with a torn meniscus in her right knee, and star Seimone Augustus was out for nine games following fibroids surgery.
