ATLANTA (AP) — Jason Heyward is out of the Braves’ starting lineup for the third straight game as he awaits the results of an MRI on his sore left thumb.
Braves team physician Dr. Gary Lourie is expected to read Monday’s MRI.
“I don’t know anything yet,” Heyward said before Monday night’s game against Washington.
Heyward’s batting average has dropped to .251, the low mark for the rookie outfielder since April 30. He is in a 1-for-16 slump.
Heyward has 11 homers and 45 RBIs.
Meanwhile, the Braves have officially named Jair Jurrjens the starting pitcher for Wednesday’s game against Washington. Jurrjens is returning from a strained left hamstring.
Also, closer Billy Wagner says he’s ready to pitch after resting his sore left ankle.
