WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan says she’ll do her best to decide cases impartially and with judicial humility if confirmed as a justice.
Kagan plans to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee later Monday that her experience working in other branches of government has taught her the Supreme Court must be a modest institution.
President Barack Obama’s nominee says the Supreme Court has to ensure that government doesn’t overstep its bounds, but also has to recognize limits on itself. Kagan says she learned as dean of Harvard Law School the importance of being open-minded across apparent political and ideological divides.
