KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — A 22-year-old Oregon man accused of killing of a steer in 2007 has been arrested in Washington.

The Tri-City Herald reports that James Derek Garrett, of Irrigon, Ore., was found in a Kennewick, Wash., apartment Sunday. He was booked into Benton County Jail as a fugitive.

Garrett was wanted in Grant County, Ore., on three felony warrants for first-degree aggravated animal abuse, felon in possession of a firearm and first-degree criminal mischief.

Oregon State Police Sgt. Tim Brown says troopers investigated a case in July 2007 of a steer shot and killed near Monument, Ore.

Brown says DNA evidence at the scene identified Garrett as the suspect.
